The Wapello County Genealogical Society was founded in 1966. Currently the society library and office  is located in the Wapello Building at 102 East Main Street in Ottumwa

Meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month at 10:30 a.m. unless posted otherwise. Meetings are located in the Society's research library unless otherwise noted in our newsletter.

Your membership in the Wapello County Genealogical Society provides funds for the expansion of the society's holdings and ensures the our continued growth. The membership year is January to December. If enrolled after October 1st, dues are extended through the following year. Dues paid between January 1st and September 30th are for the current year only. Please click the Membership link at the top of this page for more information.

Our library contains a Microfilm viewer with attached printer. A computer is also available for Internet searches. Information on our computer use and policies can be found here, Computer Guidelines & Use

Society Research

Society members do genealogical research from our library holdings. Cost of directed research is generally based on a reasonable hourly charge. For research assistance and associated costs please send and e-mail request to research@wapellocountygs.com
